can a computer Engineer appear in UPSC civil services exams like IAS and IES?

Yes you can apply for IAS and IES exam.You can register online by going in this website.http://www.upsc.gov.in/.
I am attaching the notification for this exams.You can read it carefully.The last date of registration is on 7th February.

Yes, every degree holder can write IAS exam... not matter what stream he is.

the eligibility criterion for IAS examination is graduation degree in any discipline from any recognized university. so after completion of your graduation degree in computer science engineering you will be eligible for IAS examination. but your age must be in Between 21 to 30 if you belongs to general category and also you have o fulfill other eligibility criterion like you must have Indian Citizen ship etc. for reserved candidate there are relaxation as per government rules.


for IES(Indian Engineering Services) the eligible four branch of engineering are

Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics & telecommunication Engineering


so as you are from computer science engineering branch so you are not eligible for IES examination.

After Completing Your B.E In CSE You Are Eligible to Appear In IAS Exams, And You are Not Eligible For Appear In IES Exams Because In IES Exams Only Engineering Students For the Branch Of Electronic, Civil, Mechanical And the CSE Students Can Not Apply for IES Exams.

But Dont Worry You Are Eligible for Appear In IAS Exams Because To Appear In IES Exams You Have To Passed In Your Bachelor’s degree of a Recognised University And Your Age Should Between 21-30 years.


But Foe IES Exams You Need A Post-graduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics, Statistics, Mathematical Statistics OR In Applied Statistics. So, For IES Exams You Are Not Eligible.

The answer is NO. You cannot write because as per as IES Eligibility Criteria, You can write Indian Economic Service Exam but not Engineering Services Exam.

As far as IES is concerned it is for the students of engineering from Mechanical, Civil or electronics and communication.

You are elegible for both IAS as well as IES as Graduates in any disciplinefrom the Recognised College are elegible to apply.For IAS u will have to study GK as well some another optional subject not studied in ur graduation.
For IES you can select Electronics n Telecommunication as it is clossest to computer Engineers Subjects.

You are eligible for IAS exam but not eligible for IES exam because for IES exam only civil, electrical, electronics and mechanical engineering branch are eligible. Computer science and Information technology branch re not eligible for IES exam.

To apply for IAS and IES exams, there are some eligibility criteria

They are

-Minimum graduation degree in any specialization
-Candidate should have Indian citizenship card

therefore you will are eligible with your computer engineering degree if you are in age group as listed above...

For being IAS you need to be graduate in any of subject..
your age must be between 21 and 30..
for SC/ST candidate relaxation in upper age of 5 years..
and for OBC candidates relaxation in upper age is 3 years..
Attempts-4 for General candidates
7 for OBC candidates and unlimited attempts for SC/ST candidates...
