Confused whether to opt for Law or Journalism
Hello, my name is Jhanavi. I am doing my 12th in P.C.M.(Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) I am not interested in doing B.Tech or B.E after 12th.
My problem is that I am confused whether to opt for law or journalism at my graduation and my ultimate goal is to crack civil services. Please suggest me the career which suites me well. Thank you. |

Re: Confused whether to opt for Law or Journalism
Hi Jhanavi. Cracking Civil Services Exams is really challenging and difficult. While there are papers in it which are common to all like General Knowledge(including current affairs), English etc there are optional papers also which depends on your field of graduation. And finally there are interviews as well.
According to common perception doing Law is among the best choices for those who want to go in civil services. However you should decide for yourself which field suits you better because one should not entirely depend on civil services as qualifying it is not easy therefore one should always have a backup option. So my advice would be choose a field which interests you more irrespective of worrying about Civil Services Exam. You can always prepare side by side along with graduation for civil services exams. |

Re: Confused whether to opt for Law or Journalism
hii, if you want to go for civil services then my suggestion is that you should go for law,After completion of your graduation in Law you have many options in civil sector. But first sit and decide first that what is your field of interest ,journalism is also good for you it has lots of scope in upcoming scenario.dont get stick to one thing that you only want to go in civil services because after graduation many people appear in these exams and it take a lot of hardwork ,devotion and especially patience to select in these exams,so be prepare for it ,if you are opting to go for it. I am not saying that it is impossible ,nothing is impossible ,anything is possible ,but the thing is that you have to do a lot of hard work for that.

Re: Confused whether to opt for Law or Journalism
hi jhanavi its is a lot more important to focus on your long term goal that is civil services and taking a relevant subject at the graduation is equally important to crack it in future but this is not a peice of cake so you need to decide what has more practical application and is relevant for your cause therefore i have thought to give you some details about both and then let you decide what you want to choose out of the two
1. law> law is a field where you can learn about the judicial system of our country and with that you will gain a descriptive knowledge about our indian constitution and acts and amendments made in it which is good and along with it you will get close to the indian system of making laws and implementing them. 2. journalism> journalism is a field whre more and more practical knowledge is required and along with that you can improve your communication skills and learn how to write and edit articles and stories on the other hand you can also learn and remain in touch with the current affairs and daily happenings all over the world you will develop a instinct to smell the rat any where around and be a lot more inquisitive about various things and this also requires a lot of activeness. that was a breif and broad way of looking into both the fields from my veiw you may have altogether a different veiw of both the subjects but i am sure it must have added to your knowledge and made you potent enough to choose your field of expertise .wishing you all the best and sucess throughout and a right decision about your career......byeee |

Re: Confused whether to opt for Law or Journalism
dear friend,
Law is significantly more lucrative than journalism for all but a small number of elite journalists. It's a bit like the art profession.......... A very small number at the top make big money but most just make a decent living or less. Respect wise is a judgment call. Some people are negative about lawyers but I think it depends on the type of law you go into............ |

Jhanvi,
Choosing from law or journalism and appearing Civil services are two different subjects. Choose whichever you have interest in....... For Civil Services start preparing from now, see question papers so that you will get to know what is the syllabus and what you need to study. |

Re: Confused whether to opt for Law or Journalism
Hi..I'm Srujana and I've just completed 10th. MY main goal in life is to become a journalist and I'm completely dedicated to it. I want to take law and then go to journalism but my parents want me to do engineering. They say that if you do engineering then it will be easy for you to adapt to any field. But I'm not interested in engineering at all. How far are my parents correct? And is doing law unstable as my parents told me?
