How to become a Geologist after 12th?
i am in 12. i have geography. can i became geologist????????

I am glad that you have selected geology as a subject of choice and career for you basically Geology is the study of the Earth's origin, history and composition etc. Its sub-branches are mineralogy, structural geology, geomorphology, planetology and geological engineering etc. A person who carries out these studies is known as geologist. You can take geology as a career option at undergraduate level. An honours in the field at undergraduate level can help pursue master program in the branch. The minimum educational qualification in this case is 10+2 Science (or class 12th). In India there are several bachelor’s and masters programs available in geology and applied geology. The minimum educational qualification required for studying B.Sc in Geology is an intermediate (10+2) in any discipline. In this course you will get to learn how to apply theory and techniques from :- Physics ,Chemistry,Materials science ,Biology... The best colleges for pursuing this course --- Bangalore University, Fergusson College. After B.sc it is advisable to do a post graduation in the course to get a better placement. After M.sc in Geology, you may get jobs as a: Geologists, Meteorologists, Geographers, Oceanographers. |

Is it really possible to pursue education in geology after 12h without any cet examination??? I have read that certain colleges need the cet marks as well. I have just done my 12th in science without any cet... and i really want to pursue my further education in geology. please provide me with institutions which offer geology course without the cet requirement...

In order to become a geologist you must write the Geologist exam conducted by UPSC and you must satisfy certain eligibility criteria for becoming a geologist
Eligibility: The candidates appearing for the exam must be a citizen of India. Candidates must have a age limit of 21-32 years. There are specified age limits for certain category. Regarding the education qualification candidates must have done: Master's degree in Geology/Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized university Diploma of Associate ship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. To became a geologist first you have to complete grauation in geography.
For grauation in geography you have to study B.A honours in geography. You can also study B.Sc honours geography and geology, but very few university in India offer B.Sc degree. After completing bachelor degree you have to study M.A or honours geography and geology. You can get job in geological survey of India as a geologist or surveryor. Apart from this you can also studyPhD in geograpy and geology |

My personal suggestion is that first to do B.Tech in Civil Engineering.Then you have choice to do the M.Tech in Geology field.There you can have many opportunities compared to do via B.Sc,M.sc |

I really appreciate your decision to become Geologist but for this you will have to clear the UPSC Geologist exam . It has the following eligibility criteria : Academic qualification: >>Master's degree in geology/applied geology /marine geology from a recognized university. >>Or Diploma of associateship in applied geology from Indian school of Mines. >>Master's degree in mineral exploration from a recognized university for the posts in Geological survey of India. >>Master's degree in hydrogeology for the posts in Central Ground Water board.
