Assistant Central Intelligence Officer Grade-II is a Grade C officer in the Intelligence Bureau, India's premier and world's oldest internal intelligence agency. In 1885, England had doubts over the Russian troops movement in Afghanistan. Fearing the possibility of Russian invasion of British India, the Empire established Intelligence Bureau in 1887.


It played a larger role in World War 1 and World War 2 after which India gained independence in 1947 and Intelligence Bureau became India's premier internal and external intelligence agency. Intelligence Bureau came under the Ministry of Home Affairs which was held by the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.


Over the years Intelligence Bureau had its share of flip and flops. The agency was heavily criticised for not being able to trace India China war following which the duty of gathering external intelligence was taken away from it and give to R&AW.

Then its role was primary to gather internal intelligence. IB gathers intelligence from within India and help in counter terrorism and counter intelligence tasks. The top officials and field agents are taken from the IPS and Indian Military.

Just like external intelligence, IB has flip flop record in counter terrorism operations. It is largely given credit for bursting several terror modules. The agency also sent several warnings of attack on Mumbai via sea before 26/11 and Hyderabad blasts in 2007, still it has remained a subject of sharp criticism for not being proactive enough.

There are total of 3500 field agents in IB who gather information. This however is not the job for ACIO officer. Although there is no clear information but ACIO Grade 2 officers are used to send the intelligence to concerned departments in the states. They are also used for checking emails and letters etc.


Eligibility

1. Since IB is related to national security, only Indian nationals are allowed to appear for ACIO Grade 2 Exam.

2. The maximum age limit for ACIO is 27 years.

3. You need to posses graduation degree in any stream.
