Please do not believe in ready made guide books. They are in no way come any closer to the level of Questions asked in UGC-NET. They just touch the subjects at skin level (Mostly copy paste of standard/substandard books).

Please break down the subjects from syllabus (DBMS, Theory of computation, Networks, Artificial Intelligence, Data Structures, Algorithm Design and analysis etc), and try to find standard reference books (This can be easily done if u search for any standard university in India from their MCA/BE/BTech/Mtech computer Science course syllabus list - Most of the universities list it in pdf form which could be downloaded directly).

The above is to understand the subjects well into deep level, and that alone is not enough to take up this examination. Better to have supplementary readings from Indian authors (publishers like S.Chand, BPB, Kataria etc publish books for the subjects mentioned above), as they cover the subjects in easy and lucid style plus in exam oreiented way [lots of worked out problems based on questions asked in various university examinations - Ex: problems on Functional Dependency (DBMS), problems based on subnet mask, number of nodes based on given class notation (Networks) etc], which cannot be found in reference books.

Combination of both set of books (Deep understanding of subject is required as the questions in UGC kind of examinations are critical thinking based, as well as worked out problems) and both set of approaches would be more important to clear these kind of examinations, in my view.

I have cleared Tamilnadu SET2010 with score of 210 (General category)! Never ever used any UGC NET study guide!!
