About CLAT:

In different parts of the country 12 national law schools are there. Students willing to pursue a career in law join these institutes from all over India. Till the year 2007 each of these national law schools conducted their own separate admission tests.

Exam pattern:

For Undergraduate program:

The total marks for the undergraduate program are 200 and the number of questions is 200. The subjects included are English including Comprehension (40 marks), General Knowledge/Current Affairs (50 Marks), Elementary Mathematics (20 Marks) (Numerical ability), Legal Aptitude: Legal GK (45 Marks), Logical Reasoning (45 Marks).

For Postgraduate program:

The total marks for the postgraduate program is 200. The subjects covered are Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and Legal Theory. There are 50 objective questions each carting 1 mark, 10 short questions each with 5 marks, 2 essay type questions of 50 marks each.

For both for undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programmes (LL.B and LL.M) you can sit for CLAT exam, the full form of which is ommon Law Admission Test. Fourteen National Law Universities conducts this examination in turn and on cracking this exam you can get to study in any one of them.

Eligibility Criteria for UG Programmes:-

• You need to be a higher secondary passed out candidate or its equivalent and secure not less than 50% of marks in aggregate. SC/ST candidates needs to get 45% of marks instead.
  
• If you are in the final year then also you can apply for this examination.
  
• The upper age limit for giving this exam is 20 years and for SC/ST and PWD candidates it is 22 years.

Eligibility Criteria for PG Programmes:-

• You need to have a LL.B/B.L degree or an equivalent degree and secure 55% of marks in it. SC/ST candidates needs to get 50% of marks.
  
• If you are appearing in final year/sem degree examination then also you are eligible.
  
• There is no age limit to appear for this examination.

Exam Paper Pattern for UG Programme:-

1. Duration- 2 hours
2. Total Marks- 200
3. Total Questions:- 200 MCQ

Exam Paper Pattern for PG Programme:-

1. Duration- 2 hours
2. Total Marks- 200
3. Total Questions:- 100 MCQ (1 mark each)
4. 10 Short Questions (10 marks each)

Syllabus for UG Programme:-

• English including Comprehension: 40 marks
• General Knowledge/ Current Affairs: 50 marks
• Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): 20 marks
• Legal Aptitude: 50 marks
• Logical Reasoning: 40 marks
