Default Re: Names of the universities offering M.Phil, Ph.D? What is the syllabus for it?

Dravidian University was established by the Government of Andhra Pradesh through a Legislative Act (No.17 of 1997) at Kuppam, a tri-lingual junction in the south-western part of Andhra Pradesh with the initial support extended by the governments of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala for an integrated development of Dravidian languages, thus paving way for cultural and emotional integration among all the regions that carry forward the ancient historical torch of the nation.

Dravidian university offers the following programmes through two distinct modes given below:

Campus Mode: The students have to register by passing the entrance test / viva-voce in any of the Departments of the University and should put in campus residency (details are given through separate brochure).
1. M.Phil-Ph.D. (Integrated)
2. Ph.D. Fulltime & Part-time.

Off Campus Mode (Part-time only): Dravidian University is offering admissions into M.Phil & Ph.D Programmes in Off Campus mode in the following subjects.

* M. Phil: The candidate should possess 50% marks in the subject concerned in postgraduate level.
* Ph.D: The candidate should possess
o Masters Degree with minimum 50% of marks in the subject concerned and
o M.Phil with 50% marks in the concerned subject.
o M.Phil degree is exempted if the candidate has Cleared NET/SLET or has published at least two research articles in reputed journals.

* For M.Phil: A Minimum of 18 months, and Maximum of 3 yrs
* For Ph.D: A Minimum of 2 years, and Maximum of 5 years. In the case of failure to submit thesis within five years, the candidate has to go for re-registration.

Fee for M.Phil in all subjects except Education, Management and Journalism is Rs.10,000/- per annum. For Education, Management and Journalism fee is Rs.12,000/- per annum.

Fee for Ph.D in all subjects except Education, Management & Journalism is Rs.12,000/- p.a. For Education, Management & Journalism the fee is Rs.15,000/- p.a.

Research Guide:

Every applicant has to submit the consent letter of a qualified guide expressing his/her willingness to supervise the research work, along with the application form without which admission would be deferred.

Qualifications of a Guide:

For M. Phil: A qualified guide to supervise M. Phil dissertation must possess Ph. D in the subject concerned in which the candidate is seeking admission.

For Ph. D: A qualified guide to supervise a Ph. D thesis must possess Ph. D in the subject concerned in which the candidate is seeking admission. He should also possess a total of five years of teaching experience, out of which 3 yrs should be after getting his/her Ph.D.

The guides have to give an undertaking that they are willing to guide the students till the completion of the submission of the dissertation/thesis by the candidate and will not withdraw in the middle for any reasons and will not demand any additional remuneration from the candidates. The candidate need not pay any other amount to any other agency or individual other than the fee prescribed by the University.

Allotment of students:

A Maximum number of 6 Ph.D candidates would be allotted to a qualified guide out of which 4 would be allotted at one time, not exceeding 6 at any time.

If a guide has given consent to more than four, the candidates would be allotted on merit basis by the University.

One Ph.D seat is equal to 2 M. Phil seats with respect to their allotment to guide.

The research guide is supposed to submit a list of panel of examiners with not less than 10 names for the evaluation of the thesis.

A research supervisor would receive an honorarium of Rs.1000/- & Rs.1500/- per annum for guiding M. Phil & Ph. D works respectively after the submission of the thesis by the candidate.
