Which one is a better course for a good career, Biotechnology or Biochemistry?
I am a student of final year B.Sc (biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology). I am interested in biotechnology and also I like the concepts of biochemistry. I have aggregate of 89% in biotechnology till fifth semester and 86% in biochemistry till fifth semester. I want to do M.Sc, but I am in a dilemma about the specialization. Please suggest me whether to do M.Sc in biochemistry or biotechnology and please let me know what differs in these two subjects? Which of these two subjects have more job opportunities?

Re: Which one is a better course for a good career, Biotechnology or Biochemistry?
Dear Friend
Both the streams are good for M.Sc. The main difference between these two is that Biotechnology and Biochemistry is that Biotechnology is a more professional course and also its course structure is broad. Biochemistry is a branch emerged from biotechnology itself so if you go for M.Sc. in Biotechnology then you get wide opportunities. If for some job M.Sc. in biochemistry is required, M.Sc. in biotechnology are eligible in most of the cases but the vice-versa is not true. Therefore, I would suggest you to do your M.Sc. in Biotechnology. Thank You |

Re: Which one is a better course for a good career, Biotechnology or Biochemistry?
I think Both The Courses Are Good !
But Basically its Totally Depends On Your Interest, So, choose Field According to Your Choice And Interest, So, That You Can Not Find Any Problem In Later. Biochemistry is the Study of the Chemical Reactions that Occur in the Body and its cells But Bio-technology used to figure out or make Biological things like creating proteins using technology and using these made-proteins to create drugs. So, Biotechnology is basically using biology to develop better technology such as how to build a more dangerous biological weapon or making clones. And Biochemistry incorporates biology and chemistry and studies the chemistry of life. So, Both the Courses Are Different And Different Career Scope, So Please Choose Field According To Your Interest. |

Re: Which one is a better course for a good career, Biotechnology or Biochemistry?
according to your marks and your interest i think biotechnology is better option for you.
the main difference between biotechnology and biochemistry is biotechnology deals with the technology about the bio but biochemistry deals with the reaction and other thing of chemistry about bio. now according to market job opportunity and scope is higher for biotechnology than biochemistry. biotechnology is very much professional and so many industry recruited biotechnology student. but in future if you want to do research then i think biochemistry is better. because in research field biochemistry has the more opportunity and scope than the biotechnology. but if you want to do job in industry after completion of study then biotechnology is better option. best wishes. |

Re: Which one is a better course for a good career, Biotechnology or Biochemistry?
i think both course are good and both have great scope cmpare between Biotechnology and Biochemistry.
Biotechnology is the research-oriented science including a fusion of biology and technology. This study includes a large variety of subjects including Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Chemistry, Virology, Immunology and Engineering. but i want to suggest you that Biotechnology is professional course and it has great scope in both private and public sector. so i think you should choose Biotechnology for further study. Some of major organizations in India offering good career in Biotechnology include Thapar Group, Hindustan Lever Ltd, Bivcol, India Vaccines Corporation, Indo-American Hybrid seeds, IDPL, Biocon India Ltd, National Botanical Institute, Tata Engineering Research Institute, Hindustan Antibiotics and National Chemical Laboratories. |

Re: Which one is a better course for a good career, Biotechnology or Biochemistry?
I will suggest you to take biotechnology as a career because
-it is providing good number of opportunities than biochemistry -biotechnology is highly developing in India -need for biotechnologist going on increasing -deals with advanced techniques like chromatography and electrophoresis and there is good scope for new advancements. -you can have good number of research options. At the same time M.Sc biochemistry is also a good option. But what i observed is instead of taking the candidates of M.Sc biochemistry candidates, companies recruiting Pharmacy candidates or M.Sc chemistry candidates. Final choice is up to you. Whatever the option you take develop practical skills which will be very helpful for you in the job and gain expertise. |

Re: Which one is a better course for a good career, Biotechnology or Biochemistry?
Now a days, Bio-technology has more importance than Bio-chemistry. Also, companies give more weight-age to the bachelor holders of Biotechnology than Bio-chemistry.
So, better you go with the Bio-technology course rather Bio-chemistry. Bio-technology deals completely with the Technology related to the Biology. While Bio-chemistry deals with the reactions pertaining to the Chemistry. |
