Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
I think you are some what confuse
First of all be relax. Career planing is one of the most sensetive work in today's world, where there are numbers of oppurtunity. I will advice you not to listen to anyone, just follow what you want to be. If you want to become IAS officer then go for it if you want to become IITian then go for it,if you want not to drop one year then go for it. There is nothing required to drop one year, alway remember time is very precious dont waist it in anyway. Best of luck |

Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
dear friend as you want to do iit and also want to become IAS ....and you are really confident thats really good
in my opinion you can take a drop to choose your path and you need time for preparation for both of your grand exams if you go for IAS you need to write in UPSC exam and tthat requires graduation ..... so .....best of luck and prepare well |

Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
if u are confident of doing well, take a drop. but u also mention u want to become an IAS, so why engineering..? take the path, which is least hazy and curved, u may eventually find other routes to your destination

Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
the decision to drop is totally depend on the performance in aieee and other various entrance exam that you have given, but still i will suggest you that if you are determine to be an ias officer then you shuld do graduation, rather than btech.

As a career councilor i suggest you to drop after 12th but you have to give your 100% labour during your exam preparation. So be sure about your own decision.

I am trying to get admission in btech this year. but my future aim is to become an IAS officer.

Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
dear friend,
you can only take a drop of 1 year if you are willing to work hard the following year and is confident of clearing the entrance exam.otherwise it will purely be a wastage . Good Luck. |

Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
dear friend, if your ultimate goal is to be an IAS officer, then engineering is not necessary for you.
But if you want to prove yourself at this level, then you should try for another year also for IIT. beacuse IIT is very much prestigious institute in India. but decision is yours. good luck. |

Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
dear friend, you can take a drop for one year but it totally depends upon you for what you want to take
if you drop for preparing to get admoission to IITs or NITs or any other colleges you have yto prepare well to get admission to it and for this you have to appear for exam like AIEEE,IIT,WBJEE,VIT,KIITS and many more other exams. to get admission to good colleges you have tyo score good rank. below mentionred are list iof some colleges: all IITs all NITs vellore institute of technology KIITs,bhubneswar delhi college of engineering shibpur university Jadavpur university haldia institute of technology siliguri institute of technolg any their are many colleges. all the best for your future |

if you want to became an IAS than why you think for IIT . its a garbage for you and dont waste time in drop..
drop(1 yr)+ 4 yr degree=total 2 yr wastage so only do any undergraduate course like bsc.. with prep for IAS.. all the best. |

for becoming eligible for ias exam you will have to do graduation in any field. you have given iit exam, if you get selected then it is excellent but if not then there is no need to drop one year. you can try in aieee exam also. if you did;nt find any good college even there also then also you will be having so many available choices. you can do bcs, bca, bcom, bba. so don,t lose your heart and don,t even think of dropping one year. |

hi !!
drop for a year ?? and go into IAS ?? no way...if your main aim is IAS dont go for engineering at all.. do +3 and prepare for IAS... take coaching in delhi preferably as there are numerous institutes which provide excellent coaching for IAS.....for IAS age limit is 30 and you just have 3 chance to crack it ! for details about IAS exams see http://www.upsc.gov.in good luck !! |

Re: Should I take a drop year after 12th or not?
dear friend
if you are sure that you will crack the IIT jee then you can drop one year after 12th exam.....otherwise you can drop.......for IIT student companies will give some relaxation ......in IIT colleges more then 100 companies are coming for campusing but in other colleges maximum 10 companies are coming for placement .........so in IIT YOU HAVE MORE OPPORTUNITY .....that why you can take a drop year after 12th but you must know about your caliber.......otherwise you can take any gap between your 12th and Btech degree course.................... best of luck for your all entrance examination..................... |

In really droping of year is not good for any student. If you selected in IIT in the appearing of 12th then i advise you to join it and if you not selected in appearing of 12th then depend on you if you have confidence for the selection in iit jee then you can drop a year and if you have no confidence for the selection in iit jee then you can join any private engineering college or any state engineering college through the entrance exam of that university/college because the IAS exam you can give after graduation.
