NET is National Eligibility Test. The required eligibility to pursue the course is that candidate must have passed master degree from a recognised university.

Candidate must have scored minimum 55% aggregate in master degree to become eligible to appear for the examination.

No age limit to appear for the examination for recruitment as a Professor.

So, you have to pursue the master course to become eligible to appear for the recruitment examination.

To be become an Assistant Professor (lecturer) of any recognised university, you are required to qualify entrance examinations such as NET/SET/SLET.

Further, the minimum education required to appearing in these examinations is a master's degree ( in your interested paper for teaching) with at least 55% marks from a recognised university. Marks relaxation upto 5% is allowed for candidates belonging to reserved category.

So, being a student of undergraduate degree course i.e; B.A. in History degree holder, to become a professor, you need to first complete your graduation degree course followed by a post graduation degree course in your concerned subject and then you need to qualify NET/SET/SLET.
