CSIR stands for Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
Earlier it conducts NET examination on behalf of UGC(University Grant Commission) but from 2015, instead of CSIR, CBSE conducts NAT.
NET stands for National Eligibility Test. It is conducted for recruitment of lecturer in Central universities.
Eligibility to appear in NET is that the candidate must have completed their Master degree and bachelor degree with same subject or in the last semester of the master degree program.
There is no age limit to appear in NET.

Syllabus of different subject can be downloaded from the official website.
Books and other study material is easily available in book stores or on e-commerce sites.
