M.Tech stands for Master of Technology and it is two year course after B.Tech or M.Sc in mathematics/physics etc.

The GATE entrance examination is conducted by IIT for admission of candidates in IISc, IIT and other government colleges.

So, to get in the course you have to qualify in entrance examination.
