Re: What is the difference between Applied and Medicinal Chemistry?
Applied chemistry is the scientific field for understanding basic chemical properties of materials and for producing new materials with well controlled functions.
Applied chemistry is essentially putting knowledge into something to modify it better. It consists of 3 major fields Organic chemistry and macromolecular chemistry Physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry Biotechnology and chemical engineering While Medicinal chemistry concerns the discovery, the development , the identification and the interpretation of the mode of action of biologically active compounds at the molecular level. It deals with design and development of pharmaceuticals . Medicinal chemistry is used in Drug development Formulating drugs used to treat patients with diseases Developing guidelines for how new pharmaceuticals will be used. |
