What kind of preparation is required to become an IPS Officer?


Hello Sir/Madam, I want to prepare for IPS exam. I am studying BA with History Honours from Delhi University. I want to know that what kind of preparations is essentially required to achieve my aim and become an IPS Officer?

Hello Dear,

At first you need to pass the IPS (Indian Police Services) exam which is held by Union public service commission (UPSC) every year. It is a very competitive exam so you need to prepare very well.

Selection Procedure:

The following three steps involved in the selection procedure of IPS Officers

Step-I Preliminary Exam:
This exam includes General Studies.

Step-II Mains Exam:
This exam includes Civil Service Aptitude Test

Step-III Interview

How to Prepare for Exam:
----------------------------
First you have to start your preparation with preliminary Exam, If you qualified in Preliminary Exam, You can Eligible for Mains Exam.

For General Studies, You have to cover following topics those are as follows

Economics, Political Science, History, Geography.

For Current Affairs, You have to cover Ecology, Environment, Bio-Diversity.

General Science:
These are important topics for preparation of General Studies.

You have to make a Good Time Table and Revision is essential for Civil Service Exam.

I am giving you the details of eligibility criteria to become an IPS Officer.

Eligibility Criteria :-

Education qualification:-
--------------------------

1. You must have completed Graduation in any stream.

2. If you are in the last year of Graduation is also eligible.

3. Your degree can be from any UGC approved University or any State
University.

Age Limit:-
----------------
1. Your age must be between 21 to 32 for the General category.

2. Candidates of SC/ST and OBC will get extra age 5 and 3 years
respectively.

Physical Standards Height:
-------------------------------
For General Category Candidates, Minimum height for Male should be 165 CM and for Female should be 150 CM .
Other than General Category Candidates 160 CM for Male and 145 CM for Female Candidates.
For Minimum Height require chest:
Chest for Males Minimum 84 CM, Should be expandable up to 5 CM
Chest for Females 79 Should be expandable up to 5 CM.

To become an IAS officer, you should write “Civil Service Examination” which is held every year.

This exam consists of 3 stages.
1. Preliminary examination
2. Mains Examination
3. Personal Interview

Age Limits:-

21 is the minimum age limit to write this examination. and the upper age limit will be 37 years.

General Category candidate – 32 years

OBC candidate – 35 years

SC/ST candidate – 37 years

Becoming an IPS or IAS Officer is not a piece of Cake for everyone, to get this position we have to work extremely hard with true dedication. This position not only provides you self satisfaction but also provide an opportunity to show your best.

An IPS are the Highest Ranked officer in the Police Department and second Law Maker of state after judge. Before Getting This job an aspirant have to face a lot of hurdles (exams and training). UPSC Designed a step by step examination pattern and an aspirant have to clear every hurdle to get this position.

To become an IAS officer you should write civil services exam which held every year.

This exam consist of three stages :
1) preliminary examination
2) mains examination
3) personal interview

Age limit :
Minimum age limit :21years

SC/ST candidates :37 years

Preparation required for the IAS exam :
Through there are candidates who cleared the examination with a preparation time of 3 to 6 months, it is advisable to dedicate a full year to prepare and appear for the exam. Studying for IAS requires focus and discipline.

Tips for students to prepare for IAS at home :
1) Understand the UPSC pattern and procedure first.
2) Go through the UPSC syllabus thoroughly.
3) start reading a few books about watch video lectures online for a few basic subjects like polity, history, geography etc.
4) read the news paper regularly.
