What is the maximum number of attempts allowed for UPSC examination?


Hi, could anybody please confirm me about the maximum number of attempts allowed in life time for writing UPSC examination? Is there any relaxation for any caste category candidates?

UPSC conducts various examination. Civil Service Examination is one of the most common examination conducted by UPSC.

The maximum number of attempts to appear in examination is 6 for general category and there are 9 attempts for OBC while SC/STs can give attempt till the age of 37 years.

Examination is conducted in three stages. Candidates have to appear and qualify in all stages for final selection.

General category
Maximum age - 32 years
Attempts- 6

OBC
Maximum age - 35 years
Attempts-9

SC/ST
Maximum age - 37 years
Attempts- No limit

Physically disabled
Maximum age - 42 years
Attempts- 9 for OBC and no limit for SC/ST

The number of attempts for UPSC exam:-
For General category - 6 number of attempts For OBC category - 9 number of attempts For SC/ST- unlimited till they reach the upper age limit for UPSC( 37 years).
These are the number of attempts for all category students to clear UPSC exam.

Maximum number of attempts to clear UPSC exams are:-
General category - 6 attempts till 32 years of age
OBC - 9 attempts in 35 years of age
SC / ST - unlimited attempts 37 years of age

These are the age limit and number of attempts for all categories students to clear UPSC exam.

No. of Attempts for UPSC exam:
  • For General: 6 till 32 years of age
  • For OBC: 9 till 35 years of age
  • For SC/ST: No Restriction till 39 years of age

Note that Physically Handicapped/disabled candidates (General category) will get 9 attempts till 42 years of age.

For General category students maximum age is 32 years and number of attempts are 6.

For OBC candidates the maximum age is 35 years and number of attempts are 9.

For SC/ST candidates the maximum age is 37 years and there is no limit of attempts.

For physically disabled the maximum age limit is 42 years and number of attempts are 9 if belong to OBC category and no limit of number of attempts if belong to SC or ST category

Hello,

The no. of attempt allowed for UPSC exam are depend up on the category and age.. Like below:

General: up to 32 years for 6 times.

OBC: up to 35 years for 9 times.

SC/ST : up to 37 years and no age limit.

Defence service personal: up to 35 years for 9 times.

Physical disability personnel: up to 35 years for 9 times.

At present the UPSC civil services gives to a general category candidate six attempts and a maximum age of 32 years. While for those in the OBC category is nine till 35 years of age and for the SC/ST category is unlimited attempts till 37 years of age.If you have appeared in IAS Preliminary examination and not qualified then, it will also be considered as a count.
