IAS stands for Indian Administrative Services. This civil service exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission and this exam basically has three stages which an IAS aspirant needs to cross. They are as follows:-
  1. Civil Services Prelim
  2. Civil Services Mains
  3. Personality Test
If you wish to give this exam then you need to be a graduate in any discipline of your choice from a recognized university. This exam can also be given by the final year candidates waiting for their results to come out as well. The marksheets should be in their hand before the Mains.

When applying for this exam your age should not be lower than 21 years as that is the lower age limit for giving this exam. For the general category candidates the upper age limit is 30 years.

Number of Attempts:-

1. General Category - 4
2. OBC - 7
3. Physically Handicapped - 7
4. SC & ST - No limit

Prelim exam has 2 papers - paper I (General Studies and current affairs) which is generally very tough and paper II (General Aptitude). This is like the screening test which shortlists candidates for the next stage of selection.

Paper I : General Studies (GS) - 200 marks - 2 hours
  • Environment - General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
  • Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
  • General Science
  • Economics - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • Indian History - History of India and Indian National Movement
  • Indian Politics - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
Paper II : Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) - 200 marks - 2 hours
  • Comprehension
  • English Language Comprehension
  • Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability
  • General Mental Ability & Basic Numeracy
  • Decision Making & Interpersonal Skills
Hope this helps :-> :->
