If you want to become a marine engineer..

• The minimum eligibility criteria to become a marine engineer is a BE/ B.Tech degree in Marine Engineering / Nautical Science from a recognized University. Like all other institutes, its entrance qualification is 10+2 with physics, chemistry and maths and an IIT-JEE ranking
• The physical fitness of the student should be good and he should clear a medical test to become a marine engineer.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research, Mumbai is a central university which offers a 4 year BTech programme in marine engineering.

The educational qualification to join merchant navy is-

1. A bachelors degree in nautical science (duration- 3 years)
or
marine engineering(duration- 4 years).

The eligibility to pursue these courses is as under-
1. 10+2 with physics, chemistry and maths.
2. Age Limit: 20 years for those who has +2, while its 22-23 years for B.sc Dgree holder.

To be a marine officer, first of all, you will need to join merchant navy at entry level in any of the following department.
1.Navigational department
2.Marine engineering

One can also enter in Deck Cadet, just by having 12 months pre-sea training but prospects are not so promising. So it is advisable to you to first join any bachelors programme related to it & then proceed further for the same.

Dear sir,

Admission to the Marine Engineering course is also done based on the performance of the students in the state level or All India level entrance examination.

Eligibility criteria for seeking admission to the B. Tech in Marine Engineering:

For seeking admission to the Bachelor of Technology in Marine Engineering course, candidates must have completed their 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry subjects with not less than 60% of aggregate marks from a recognized board of education. The other requirement is that candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% of marks in English.

Entrance Examination:

Like other B.E/B. Tech engineering courses, admission to the Marine Engineering course is also done based on the performance of the students in the state level or All India level entrance examination.

You should complete your 12th class to apply for marine engineering course. You should take up science group after 10th class with Physics, chemistry and mathematics as the main subjects. Your age should not be below 17 years. You should have done your 12th from a recognized board with an aggregate of 50% marks. The selection will be based on the score you secure in the common entrance test.
