Re: What are the various types of defects found in Metals?
Typical metallic structure doesn't seem to have a defect as such. Yet, metal ions may migrate to interstitial voids, this defect is called Frenkel defect. By reaction with a non-metal on the surface, metals may liberate electrons e.g. Zinc, this defect is called Metal Excess defect due to anionic deficiency.

Re: What are the various types of defects found in Metals?
hi dear,
broadly there are two types of metal defects:-- 1- stiochiometric defect and 2- non-stiochometric defects stiochimetric defects include 1-schottky defect-due to missing of ions from lattice point in pairs 2-frenkel defects-it is caused dur to the creation of lattice vacancy as a result of misplaced ion in interstial site. it is common in solid ith high co-ordination no. 2---non-stiochometric defects- ratio of positive and negativeion differ from that indicated by chemical formula. thanks |

Defects in metal structure are:
1. Dislocations 2. Point Defects Found in grains of metal's lattice structure 3. Volume Defects Divided in to three parts (a) void (b) crack (c) inclusion of foreign particles Casting Defects : it is of different category defect |

Re: What are the various types of defects found in Metals?
Dear Friend
Defect of Imperfection in metals is defined as the irregularities or deviation from the ideal arrangement inside a metal. It occurs generally when crystallization process occurs at fast or moderate rate. There various metal defects are as follows: 1.Point Defects Under this there are three types of defects: >>Impurity defect >>Stoichiometric defect 1.Vacany defect 2.Frenkel defect 3.Schottky defect >>Non stoichiometric defect 2.Line defects: It is further classified into : >>Edge dislocation >>Screw dislocation 3.Surface defects: >>Internal defect 1.Grain Boundaries 2.Tilt boundaries 3.Stacking fault 4.Twin boundaries. >>External defect Hope the information helps you.If you have any more query regarding this you can leave your message here.
