John Smeaton is the father of civil engineering.
John Smeaton was an English civil engineer responsible for the design of bridges, canals, harbours and lighthouses. He was also a capable mechanical engineer and an eminent physicist.

Smeaton was the first self-proclaimed civil engineer, and often regarded as the "father of civil engineering".

John Smeaton, FRS, (8 June 1724 – 28 October 1792) was an English civil engineer responsible for the design of bridges, canals, harbours and lighthouses.

He was also a capable mechanical engineer and an eminent physicist. Smeaton was the first self-proclaimed civil engineer, and often regarded as the "father of civil engineering". He was associated with the Lunar Society.

John Smeaton

John Smeaton was the father of Civil Engineering.
Smeaton founded the Society of Civil Engineers in 1771.
He was born on June 8, 1724 in Austhorpe, Yorkshire, Eng.
He died on October 28, 1792, Austhorpe.

John Smeaton was an English Engineer noted for his all-masonry lighthouse on Eddystone reef off Plymouth, Devon, and as the founder of the Civil - Engineering profession in Great Britain.

Died: 28th October 1792(aged 68) in Austhorpe,England

He was also capable Mechanical engineer and eminent Physicist.
