Generally Bank recruitment exam conducts for the posts of PO and Specialist Officers.

PO means Probationary Officer who generally works under the superior of the experienced officer. The vacancies are more for this post. They have to work in all departments from top to bottom (Clerk to Manager). They increase their position after 2 years experience. They work in front of the public like Treasury, clerks etc.

Specialist officer mainly works in the back of the offices. They mainly deals with the technical and Human resources of the bank. They include Law officer who deals with the legals and judicial matters of the bank, Information technology officers take care of its software systems and maintains servers, database and networking aspects.

The pay scale of the Specialist officer is more than that of the Probationary officer. However, the vacancies are limited for Specialist officer.

The educational qualification for PO post is the candidate should possess graduation in any discipline from a recognized university. For Specialist officer post the candidate should complete PG course in any specialized technical field.

Bank PO is probationary officer which is related to banking services only. Specialist officer is mostly related to special works according to the qualification of the officer.

For specialist officer you need specialized degree and for probationary officer any degree will work. There is a difference in lay scale too if you look at both the posts.
