The NIT, Patna has ranked top Five among all NITs and ranked top 37 among all Engineering Institutes in India by Times Engineering Survey. NIT, Patna has been recognised as “Outstanding Engineering Institute (North)” by the ABP News National Awards, 2014. Digital Learning Magazine has placed NIT Patna in 40th position among Govt. Engineering Institutions in June, 2014. In 2013, Dainik Bhaskar has also recognised NIT Patna “Outstanding Engineering Institute (North)”under its National Education Leadership Awards.

NIT patna was ranked with 5th position among NITs & ranked 37th position among all Engineering Institutes in India by Times Engineering Survey. It was given 5th rank for achieving and setting benchmarks in academic and extracurricular activities, research, consultancy and developmental activities.

NIT was converted as an NIT in the year 2004. It is one of the most popular engineering institutes in the country.

There are 30 NITs in the country and NIT, Patna was ranked 21st among them.
