You have completed Masters degree in Machine design so you are eligible for NET/SLET exam.

The educational qualification required for NET/SLET exam is masters degree from a recognized university with above 55% marks. 5% relaxation is given for SC/ST category candidates. Final year student are also eligible for NET/SLET exam.

There is no age criteria for NET/SLET exam but for JRF posts, your age should be below 30 years.

Yes, you are eligible for the SET/NET examination after completing post-graduation in Mechanical Engineering. SET(State Eligibility Test)/NET(National Education Test) is an examination for lectureship in universities and colleges. The educational qualification required is a candidate must have passed a Master's degree or equivalent with a minimum score of 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized university. The candidate age should not be less than 19 years and there is no upper age limit.

There is no special paper for mechanical engineering in both net exams.

The net exam conducted by CSIR-UGC used to has a stream called engineering sciences, every branch of engineering student is eligible to write. However, it's mainly advantage to mechanical engineering student due to it's syllabus and paper pattern.
