It includes basic information about the computers like types, functional units, operation, software, processors, error detection. Micro operation, transfer languages, memory, stack organization, Input and output and interrupt, modes of addressing, data transfer, micro programmed control memory, sequencing of address, computer arithmetic, algorithms (division, floating point, decision), memory system and its types ( RAM, Read-only, Cache, RAID), Input-Output organization, Peripherals, Serial communication, RS232, USB, IEEE1394, Pipeline and processing of vectors, RISC pipeline, array processors, multi processors and their characteristics.

Paper Pattern: Candidate will be given 8 questions out of which 5 should be answered. All are subjective type and each question carries 16 marks. The questions may be subdivided.

Time allotted and Maximum Marks: Duration of the exam will be 3 hours and the maximum marks allotted are 80.

Key Points: Many of the questions can be expected from the previous question papers. Types of memory and its organization, networking, pipelining, interrupt processing, control units, IEEE standards, Input and Output communication techniques carry good weightage. Flow charts should be drawn clearly.
