The Theory of Architecture paper is a purely theoretical paper which prepares students for the basics of architecture, and helps them to understand the development of modern architecture from the ancient forms of architecture. The questions are set on the definitions of the various architectural terms, aesthetic elements in architecture, components of architecture and design: such as colour and symmetry and much more. The paper is divided into two sections, the first contains short questions such as definition of Architecture, and functions of pyramidal mass in architecture, what are scale and proportion etc. each of the questions are of 4 marks. The second group has 12 descriptive questions of 4 marks each. Some of the common questions in this group are analysis of the various factors influencing architecture, describing Renaissance theory of proportion, significance of Rhythm, Hierarchy and Balance. The paper requires thorough study as the questions are very direct and easy. Below are attached some of the previous year’s question papers for your help.
