Data communication and Computer Networks is included in the fifth semester of the B. Tech degree course offered by Satyabhama University. The time duration of the test is 3 hours, and the maximum marks are 80. There are two parts in the paper- Part A and Part B. The former consists of objective type questions while the latter consists of subjective type questions. Part A carries 20 marks. There are ten objective type questions in this part and weightage is 1 mark for each of them. In part B there are 5 questions, each with a weightage of 12 marks. Questions in this section are all compulsory, but the questions have alternative choices. The main topics from where questions are asked frequently are Communication model, OSI-ISO model, TCP/IP, different layers of the OSI model, transmission media, error control, flow control, routing protocols, encryption, coding, switching, and topologies etc. The syllabus of the subject is very vast, but the subject being interesting, it is not much difficult to score good marks in this subject.
