The University has kept 50 marks as full marks for this paper. There are five questions in the paper, the candidates have to answer question 5 and any two other questions from the remaining questions. All questions are descriptive. Some of the questions are: how would you differentiate between Dharmashastra and Arthashastra, what are the functions, duties and policies of an ideal king as enumerated by Kautilya in his book Arthashastra, explain the basic tenets of the Gandhian concepts of Satyagraha, evaluate Subhas Chandra Bose’s doctrine of Synthesis and give reasons for why it is possible/not possible to think of Bose as a fascist thinker, briefly discuss Aurobindo’s concept of unity and explain what were the contents and historical forces that shaped the nationalist movement post-Aurobindo, give a brief outline of M.N.Roy’s conception of Radical Humanism and Radical Society. Compulsory question are short notes on Gandhian concept of truth, Jawaharlal Nehru’s views on planning, Ram Mohan Roy’s religious reforms etc.
