Nehru Post Graduate College was actually established as a non-government college in the year 1964 and it was taken over by the government in the year 1973 after which it was renamed as Government Nehru Post Graduate College. Another college named as Swami Vivekananda College was merged with this college in the year 1975 and the college is offering courses under the faculties of arts, science and commerce with affiliation from Dr. Harisingh Gour University located at Sagar.

Reservation for admission:

In the process of admission, Government Nehru P.G. College is following reservation policy as per the guidelines of Madhya Pradesh state Government. Normally, the reservation policy is 16% and 20% of seats for SC and ST candidates respectively, 14% of seats for OBC, 3% of seats for daughters and sons of FF and 30% for women candidates.

Library facility at the college:

The library at Government Nehru P.G. College is constructed with the help of the aid provided by the University Grants Commission. The library includes separate reading room with a collection of employment newspapers, general newspapers to help the students to keep themselves updated. The library also includes a wide collection of textbooks and reference books in different subjects.

Sports activities at the college:

The college offers training to students in different games like volleyball, kho-kho, athletics, shatranj, badminton, kabadi and cricket and students are encouraged to take part in different college level and university level competitions and the college also includes a playground.
