The former name of Sri Ramachandra University is Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute and it is located in Chennai City in the state of Tamil Nadu. The university was formed in 1985 on the 11th of September by Sri Ramachandra Education & Health Trust and it was given the status of university in December 2006, even though it was previously a medical college.

In the year 1997, the university entered into an association with Partners Harvard Medical International for pursuing improvements in patient safety and health care quality, faculty development, curriculum reform in affiliated medical centre. As a result of this association, it achieved accreditation by Joint Commission International in the year 2009. Sri Ramachandra University also includes a medical centre and it is a multi-specialty university hospital with 25 operating rooms, 114 Intensive Care Unit beds, 1500 beds and the campus of the university is spread over an area of 175 acres. It is one of the largest private health care centers in the whole of south Asia.

The university is presenting having nine constituent colleges with more than 60 departments offering more than 100 courses in medical and health research and studies to over 3500 students. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council have awarded the university with ‘A’ grade status. Several facilities are offered by the university to students like ATM, bank counter, broadband internet connectivity, travel desk and shopping center.
