The history of the Mahatma Gandhi College dates back to 1948 when it was established by the Nair Service Society. Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan was the founder of this society and college. After two years of inception, gradually arts and science section were added in the academics. The college is affiliated to Kerala University and has won the accreditation of ‘A’ level by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

The college campus is built in a serene atmosphere and indeed one of the elegant campuses of Trivandrum.

In addition to the above academics, the college also exists as the pioneer for doing doctoral programs in the Kerala city. Many candidates enroll themselves for doing M.Phil and Ph.D. programs here. So far this college has produced 50 Doctoral candidates successfully in various disciplines of study.

Amenities:

The college has a big library which stores more than 50,000 volumes of books. It also has extended subscriptions to various journals and periodicals for updating the knowledge of the students. The library has been classified into General and Departmental library and Reference library. The library also provides internet access to its students which can be accessed after paying reasonable charges.

The institute does not extend accommodation for its students. So students belonging to other states should make their own arrangement for lodging.

Placement:

The college manages a separate career guidance cell which assists the students in selecting the right career for future depending upon their aptitude and personality. The cell also actively involves in arranging campus interviews from big companies and corporate sectors and prepares the students for it.

Human Resource Development section strives in generating the inner potential of the candidates thereby transforming them into sincere citizens.
