Sanatana Dharma College shortly called as S.D. College came into existence in the year 1946 and the college was established with the efforts of Sri V. Sundara Raja Naidu and Sri K. Parthasarathy Iyengar as an offshoot of the Sanatana Dharma Vidyasala, which was established in the year 1905. The college is one among the oldest institutions affiliated to the University of Kerala and all courses of the college are designed by this university. The college has earned four star status from the NAAC.

Research facilities:

Sanatana Dharma College offers research facilities in the department of zoology and botany. Apart from this, departments of commerce, chemistry, history and English also have approved research guides for supervising students for Ph. D and a minimum of two other departments are on the way of offering research facilities in the near future.
