he can take admission through lateral entry. He should contact the college or university in which he wants to apply. Some colleges conduct their own exam and some colleges gives admission on the basis of marks in diploma. So he must contact the college.

yes you can apply for a lateral entry which is a direct admission process in 2nd year in some college,You can even appear for AIEEE or IIT JEE.WB JEE,ORISSA JEE,CUSAT In order to get college for 2nd year admission you have to fill the form and then appear for the exam.

u must get chance in 2nd yr directly as a lateral in any private or Govt. Engg.colleges.
for that u have to appear for LEET or JELET exam lateral entry .

if u clear them then according to ur rank &then counselling u will get admission in any engg. colleges directly in 2nd yr.

if you have completed your diploma then you can apply to the engineering as per your marks and choice..

Some eligible criteria are needed , those are ........
1. Candidate should have a diploma in a proper stream from a proper university in proper discipline ..

2. Candidate should have minimum 60% marks in that stream . But this percentage of marks depends upon college to college .. If you are a lucky person then you will get a good college....

3. After passing the diploma please don't waste you time it's my request to you please visit different college's site then it is clear to you that which college you are gettable .

4.Some college take some interview for the new entry , so you have to prepare to give any kind of interview like personal interview or technical interview etc...


So prepare all of this aspect , i am sure that you will get a good college, see friend if you get good college then it will be beneficial to you and if you succeed then it is my pleasure..

Diploma holder students can get admission into 2nd year of btech degree course through the lateral entry scheme.

Some college takes admission directly while others may take entrance exam for admiting students through lateral entry scheme.

I am not sure about the mode of selection used by engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. So, it is better to contact the concerned authority of desired college & ask them about the selection process.

joint entrance lateral entry scheme. after qualifying in this exam , you will get admission

in engineering college to get Btech degree.

why not obviously u can apply for degree after deploma.bt for that u have to give jellet entry exam .by jellet exam u can directly entered in 2nd yr.
then according to ur jellet exam rank u get ur college.jellet exam is taken in the final yr of diploma engg.
so give jellet exam & prepare ur self for jellet exam.
jellet exam is generally taken in the month of june.

For your brother in law, AIEEE, IIT- JEE are the two good options as entrance exams for btech.

Another thing to do would be go to the college where you are interested to take your Engineering, and collect full details from that college of how to get the admission.

Most of the Universities/Engineering Collage provide lateral entry to B-Tech for Engineering Diploma holders. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University is one of the prestigious government university provide lateral entry to B-Tech and conduct seperate entrance exam for admission to seconf year of B-Tech. Some of the private institutions give direct admisdion on the basis of % of marks scored in diploma.

you can go for AIEEE or IITJEE or for 1st year admissions.
There are some entrance exams in india for Btech Lateral entry, Manipal(ENAT), LEET etc.

well to try in engineering colleges for your further studies in tamil nadu you can try in some colleges like anna universities(Coimbatore),anna university (chennai),sona college of engineering,snn college of engineering...you can get into the official website of this colleges and can apply for it online or can even go through some consultancy who can do admission for you...best of luck

After diploma you can get admission directly to second year of engineering course. this process or scheme is known as LATERAL ENTRY SCHEME. but this facility is not available for some well known institute like -IITs and NITs.
However you can get admission in other colleges.first of all contact the college official in which you want to take admission. colleges or institutes conducts their own exams for entrance in second year .this exam is known as DIPLOMA TO DEGREE exam.so appear in this exam and after clearing this exam ,you can take admission directly in second year.

you can apply for engineering course in tamilnadu by consulting with some people who does admission for students in tamilnadu or also you can try yourself by going through this colleges if you like to peruse further studies in this colleges...

For diploma passed or appearing student the exam is taken as lateral entry examination. If you are interested in the engineering course then you can apply for lateral entry examination. In india many government and private institute is offer this course. all the best.

After Diploma you can get direct admission in 3rd semester (2nd Year) for Engineering degree.

This course is called transfer course.

If you want to take admission in engineering degree / college then you may contact to the any engineering college regarding admission prpcedure.

He need to give Lateral Entry exam for admission to 2nd year directly. For this state universities publish notification in the month of April-May.

No you cannot get admission into IITs like other colleges after diploma.

After completing diploma you may apply for degree course in engineering

All colleges have different % of seats for diploma to degree students

You have to give entrance exam for the degree course

All colleges have their own criteria for the admission

After passing the entrance exam you will get admission directly in second year!!..

After Diploma you can do Degree, IIts, REC also have lateral entry provision. Or else you can apply in any private collage, they take based on your mark.

If he has done his diploma( 3 years or 4 years) then he can apply for a lateral entry for direct 2nd year admission to some colleges.


In order to apply for the college for 2nd year admission you have to fill up the form and then answer the exam. There are some 10% seats available in each branch so if he gets through then he can easily get a good colleges. in a good branch.
