Hi

You can join merchant navy as an engineer through direct entry. You can apply for the Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer through direct entry scheme.

So you should have to complete your engineering first then you are eligible for the respective course.

Beside this the physical requirement is you should be physically fit and should have minimum height of 150cm and have no skin diseases and all.

So if you have the above eligibility then you are eligible for this course.

GOOD LUCK

Yes, you can merchant navy after completing your engineering degree.

after completing graduation, you can get direct entry to the post for Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer.

After getting entry, you have to undergo through a Pre-sea course of 9 months duration in Marine Engineering conducted by the MERI.

besides these educational qualification, you also have to pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.

Hi dear,

There are various modes of entries into Merchant Navy.

As a DECK CADET.: You can have to undergo 12 months of pre-sean training the minimum requirement is you have passed your class 12 (PCM) if you have scored at least 60% aggregate.Appearing candidates can get provissional admission.

As an OFFICER: For that you have to acquire at least a B.sc (Nautical science).Appearing candidates can get provissional admission.

As a TRAINEE OR 5TH ENGINEER: For that you have to persue B.tech (Marine engineering). Or mechanical, electronics & telecomunication and electrical engineers can join it directly after persuing a 10 months pre-sea training in Merine engineering. So you have to go for this training. IT is offered by many institutes across India (For example- MERI,Kolkata etc.) or also by recruiting company itself.Appearing candidates can get provissional admission.

Check Above the list of institutes which offers direct as well as entrance based admission to all above mentioned courses in Merchant Navy.

Hi,

- the training of all the indian merchant navy personnel is the responsibility of the government of india, who work through the ministry of surface transport.

Minimum eligibilty criteria:-

-candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of merchant navy need to complete their b.sc. Degree in mechanical or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field.

- in some cases, students who have completed their 12th with pcm (physics, chemistry, mathematics) are eligible to join as deck cadets.

-navigating officers - candidates will need to obtain a certificate of competency, as per the regulations in india relating to the examinations of masters and mates. Conducted by the ministry of surface transport, in association with the directorate general of shipping (dgs) mumbai, the examinations help determine the promotion prospects for the officers. Training for navigating officers

-age:

The candidate must have attained the age of 17 years on the year of examination.

The upper age limit is also relaxed in favor of certain categories of employees working under the government of india and defense services personnel.

The age limit varies with different posts in merchant navy.

Hope this helps you…

good luck.

Thumbs up Re: What is the procedure to join merchant navy?

Hello my dear friend

The following procedure will be followed for conducting Demand Survey to assess viability of a proposed Scheme of AFNHB and for registration to the Scheme thereafter:-
(a) For Demand Survey Registration. The most important step in the process of Project Planning by AFNHB in a particular town or city is the Demand Survey. This is the primary basis to assess the viability of a scheme, which is based on the number of personnel desirous of acquiring a Dwelling Unit there. This Demand Survey is undertaken through IG, K Broadcast etc. The personnel desirous of opting for the scheme are required to pay the Demand Survey Deposit as follows:-

(i) Officers. Rs.11,000/- (inclusive of non-refundable Rs 1000/- towards Administrative Fees and Cost of Master Brochure). If the Demand Survey Applicant does not continue with the Scheme, then Rs.10,000/- will only be refunded. The withdrawal will be as per the Withdrawal Proforma placed at Appendix D.

(ii) Sailors or Airmen. Rs.6,000/- (inclusive of non-refundable Rs.1000/- towards Administrative Fees and Cost of Master Brochure). If the Demand Survey Applicant doesn't continue with the scheme, then Rs.5,000/- will only be refunded. The withdrawal will be as per the Withdrawal Proforma placed at Appendix D.

Note: Demand Survey Registrants for a scheme in a specific CITY / NCR will be informed on launching the scheme by the Board and will be given preference to be confirmed allottees in the scheme, subject to their acceptance.

(b) Scheme Registration. Demand Survey Registrants desirous of registering in the Scheme when it is announced are required to apply in the application form provided in the Master Brochure and are to pay the registration amount as follows:-

(i) Officers. Rs.90,000/- in addition to amount already deposited as Demand Survey Deposit described above.

(ii) Sailors or Airmen. Rs.45,000/- in addition to amount already deposited as Demand Survey Deposit described above.

(c) Fresh Registration for Schemes. Personnel who did not register in Demand Survey, but are now desiring to join the Scheme on its announcement are required to apply in the application form provided in the Master Brochure and pay the registration amount as follows:-
(i) Officers. Rs.1,01,000/- including non-refundable and non-adjustable Administrative Fees and Brochure Cost (Rs.1000/-).

(ii) Sailors or Airmen. Rs.51,000/- including non-refundable and non-adjustable Administrative Fees and Brochure Cost (Rs.1000/-).

All the very best.....
