I'm in Btech final year (electrical branch) and I look forward to joining merch. navy.. which would be the best way to join??? Should i go for DNS course?? Isn't it going to be a waste of my engg. if I do DNS?? For DNS can be done right away after 12..... I'm really confused... Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help... |

I am in the 6th sem right now.... may i know that do i some future in merchant navy?? if 'yes' then wat is it and if it is 'no' wat's the way to get into merchant navy....I have passed the 'A' certificate in NAVY during my school days.. plz do reply.. |

Yes this is very goof field if you are interested in it, the salary package is also high, you can get 100000 per month in starting but after some time it will be 18,00000 per Annam, in this job you can make your career as a engineer, On time of duty there is 4 months service and 2 months holidays for you, so go for this field, you will get much experience from many countries.

engineers can make a direct entry in merchant navy by giving a test and an interview which is conducted by recruiting company after that you have to join pre sea course of 9 months. After that you will be a merchant navy officer.

you can approach these colleges ,so that you can get information.. 1.Lal Bahadur Shastri college of Advanced Maritime studies & research,Tank road,mumbai. 2.Marine Engineering and research Institute ,Hay Bunder tank road Mumbai. 3.T.S.Chanakya ,Karave Navi Mumbai This is also a good decision Today Marine Engineering is one of the best Profession. If you have a B.tech in Mechanical engineering then you can join navy as a engine Cadet/Fifth engineer/Junior engineer You have to go for a Pre sea course of 9 months duration in Marine engineering conducted by the recuriting company itself. Then under training you will recieve anything betwwen 20,000-40,000 per month salary. so all the best dear..... |

Career in Merchant Navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly two specialized fields, i.e. Marine Engineering and Nautical (deck). To become a seafarer, following streams of entries (Pre-Sea courses) are available to Indian citizens in the Government as well as in private training institutions (recognized and approved by Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping):-
Officers 3 year degree course in Nautical Science for (10+2) students. 4 year degree course in Marine Engineering for (10+2) students. 2 year course for Diploma Holders. 1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers. 3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students. Rating (Entry standard Xth) 4 month Pre-Sea Course for General Purpose (GP) rating. 3 month Pre-Sea Course for Deck rating. 3 month Pre-Sea Course for Engine rating. 4 month Pre-Sea Course for Saloon rating. In addition, a candidate can join as utility hand or Petty Officers (Fitters) after completing 4 Basic Courses, i.e. FPFF, EFA, PSSR and PST. bullet Govt training Institutes : There are four Government Training Institutes providing Pre-Sea and Post-Sea training of international standard : Training Ship Chanakya, Navi Mumbai. Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata. Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai. Lal Bahadur Shastri College of advanced Maritime Studies and Research, Mumbai. Admission to Merchant Navy Courses in India is conducted through IIT- JEE. The two areas where training is given to students enrolling in these courses are Marine Engineering and Navigation Science. One common eligibility criteria for merchant navy officers in both the fields is medical fitness.
