TANCET stands for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test and GATE is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Both exams are conducted for the master's degree in technology. TANCET is conducted by state government and GATE is conducted by IIT or IISC every year for M.Tech.

Candidates who have done bachelor's degree in engineering or technology or those who are in final year of bachelor of technology can apply for the both exams.

Specialization for Mechanical engineers at master's degree level:

Industrial Automation and Design.

Engineering Mechanics.

Machine Design.

Referigeration and Air Conditioning.

Mechatronics.

Thermal Power Engineering.
