If you have much interest in Merchant Navy....

First what is your qualification....???

It depends on qualification Graduate or 10+2. After 10+2 you can join as cadet its very hard...& I don't have much info about it.....

If you have done B.E/B.Tech(Mechanical) then you can try for Marine Engineering for that a one year pre-sea training is necessary after you finish you BE/Btech. The one year is like Post graduation Diploma, You can check more details regarding It from Fleet management, shipping corporation of india, Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy, bernhard schulte ship management. ect.. after the 1 year you will be directly absorbed by the company, means you will apply directly to company they have tie-up with some Maritime institutions. Eg: shipping corporation of india(Government Undertaking..) tie-up with Maritime University(a Central University).

In this You need to pay for institution for 1year course( It varies for each institute) Its around 3lakh+.. You can get the money back in no time as your pay will be higher

COURSES TO JOIN MERCHANT NAVY:

There are different diploma & degree courses where you can join after 10th or 12th.

To join as an officer the courses you can pursue are:

• 3 year degree course in Nautical Science for (10+2) students.

• 4 year degree course in Marine Engineering for (10+2) students.

• 2 year course for Diploma Holders.

• 1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers.

• 3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students.

For joining as Rating(after 10th) the courses you can pursue are:

• 4 month Pre-Sea Course for General Purpose (GP) rating.

• 3 month Pre-Sea Course for Engine rating.

• 3 month Pre-Sea Course for Deck rating.

STCW Course- This is the basic safety course which is compulsory for every seaman. This consists of four basic course i.e. Elementary First Aid(EFA), Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF), Personal Survival Techniques (PST) and Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (PSSR). It is a total 15 days program.

Eligibility Criteria:
For joining course after 10+2, physics, chemistry and maths are compulsory subjects. Moreover you need a minimum of 50% in aggregate and 50% in English at 10th or 10+2 level.For pursuing after 10th, minimum aggregate percentage of 40% are required with Science, mathematics and English as compulsory subjects with 40% marks in it.

Government training Institutes :
There are four Government Training Institutes providing Pre-Sea and Post-Sea training of international standard :

• Training Ship Chanakya, Navi Mumbai.

• Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata.

• Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai.

• Lal Bahadur Shastri College of advanced Maritime Studies and Research, Mumbai.

The two major departments of Merchant Navy are
1.Navigational department
2.Marine engineering
The educational qualification to join merchant navy is a bachelors degree in nautical science (duration- 3 years) or marine engineering(duration- 4 years).
The eligibility to pursue these courses is 10+2 with physics, chemistry and maths.
Here is the list of some major institutes which offers courses for Merchant navy for the candidates who has qualified the entrance exam such as IIT JEE, AIEEE and others.

As soon as you successfully complete your bachelors degree in nautical science, you may join merchant navy as deck cadet and as a junior engineer after marine engineering program

Apart from this, Candidates with fair knowledge of accountancy and computer may join the administrative department of Merchant Navy.

There some options available to join the shipping line. You can join after your 12th science. It is important that you should have studied Maths too as a subject. You will need to appear for the entrance exam. On clearing you can go in for 11 months Pre Sea training. Thereafter you are eligible to join. Another option is to join after completing Marine Engineering course. Even candidates with Mechanical Engineering can join but they will need to undergo pre sea training.

I am pankaj completed MBA in HR And marketing with 69% , i have passed B.A & MA from himachal pradesh university .Am i eligible to join merchant navy or have to do some courses.

To join in any defence service ,you have to complete atleast 12th standard.
In 12th standard you have take MPC stream to appear for NDA exam after 12th standard.And to appear your age should be between 16 1/2 to 18 years.
If you miss this chance,because of some reason,then you can appear for CDS exam,after your graduation course.For this exam,your age should be between 21 to 24 years.

Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai
conducts courses for Graduate engineers.
It is a 1 year pre - sea training for the post of Junior engineers.
The eligibility for this training is that you must have compleated
your Bachelors of engineering degree in either mechanical
engineering or naval architecture from a recognised institute.

I just qualified 12th with 71% in ISC board with 74 in English nd 49 in PCM.....
but minimum requirement in for IMU in PCM is 55%

so, is there any other method by which i can apply for Merchant Navy...?
