The district of Rayagada is located in the Indian state of Orissa and it is a Mineral-rich district with the city of Rayagada as its headquarters. The district has tribals as its population by occupying a total area of 7584.7 km2. The district is divided into 11 blocks and the main source of income for the district is through agriculture.

Crops like maize, potato, groundnut, biri, mung, ragi, wheat and paddy are grown in the district as major crops. Official languages of the district are Orissa, English and Hindi and it is bounded by the Gajpati District, Kandhamal District, Kalahandi District, Korapur District and Vizianagar District of the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Education in Rayagada District:

According to the survey conducted in the academic year 2006-07, Rayagada District had 1207 primary schools, 422 middle schools, 90 secondary schools and 13 general education colleges. When it comes to collegiate education in the district, it has nine general colleges, which includes both government and private colleges, the district also has polytechnic colleges for offering technical education functioning under government and private ownerships. Arts, Science and Commerce Colleges:

The three colleges functioning under government-ownership in the district of Rayagada are offering arts, science and commerce education at higher secondary as well as degree level with affiliation from the Berhampur University. Some of the compulsory subjects offered by these colleges are alternative English, Hindi, Telugu, Oriya and English as language subjects and optional subjects offered are mathematics, political science, economics, history and home science in the arts faculty. As far as science faculty is concerned, biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry are offered as optional subjects.

Polytechnic College:

Utkal Gourav Mahusudan Institute of Technology is shortly called as UGMIT and the institute holds the pride of being the only government-run polytechnic college in the undivided Koraput District. the institute began its journey in the year 1979 with diploma courses in one discipline and slowly many other disciplines were introduced. Presently, the institute offers diploma courses in the following subjects:

Leather Technology

Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

Rural Technology

Civil Engineering

Of the total number of seats available in this college, some percentage of seats is reserved according to the norms of the Government of Orissa.
