The research and development centers are very less in India, and very few of them are up to the mark like Indian council of social science Research. It is one of the very popular and renowned research institutes in India.
The ICSSR provides the professional courses with doctoral fellowship to the eligible aspiring candidates. Institute is located in Aruna Asif Marg, New Delhi and approved by Government of India for providing PhD fellowship to the aspirants. ICSSR invites all the applicants for the doctoral fellowships for 2010-2011 in the prescribed format.

For the Senior Research Fellowship the candidates should have great experiences in their respective fields. The other eligibility criteria for the fellowship are as follows:
1. For the senior fellowship there is no age limit.
2. He must be a PhD degree holder.
3. He must have completed any research papers with a proven quality.
4. He may be a research scholar from abroad who is interested to carry out his research work in India in social science.
The institute was established in the year 1969 by the government of India to promote the research in Social Science in India. The main ambitions of the institute are to sponsor and support social science research programs. The ICSSR also provides financial support to the institutions, individuals and journals who are engaged in this research program. It enables the deserving candidates to do the research in particular area of the social sciences and also adopt special measures for the development of research programs. The duration of Senior Fellowships of the ICSSR is of maximum period of 2 years.

1. Open category: 40 Seats
2. North East Category(North east category of fellowship are earmarked for candidates from North East region or who are registered in North Eastern Universities): 15 seats
3. Institutional doctoral Fellowships (the candidates should apply directly to the institutes enlisted in the website): 76 seats

I am a Positionholder Masters a National Fellow already submitted/submitting several Research Proposals or ICSSR funding as I am capable of providing Quality Research which are never attempted by anyone.On the one hand ICSSR is admitting that there is dearth of quality resecrhes,researcher,research institution but on the otherhand it is sidetracking a serious researcher like me on grounds that I have not completed PhD.Instead o allowing necessary funds to complete it if it will sidetrack than what is the use of these bulk money ? Isnt the ICSSR would provide its funds to a serious reserchers like me who have published books o f doctoral calibre.?

I have a query that I am a resercah scholar in Economics, and enrolled in Ph.D. course in 2007 with scholarship. but the scholarship has been finished in January 2011 and now my thesis is yet to completed . there is no earning hand in my family because my father has been expired on 2009. i am not on a job also. can i eligible for financial assistance from ICSSR or can i apply for thetime of my submission that may be atleast one year ?

i did my ph.d from JNU, New Delhi and was working at MDI, Gurgaon till March 2008. I had an accident on 12 March 2010. I underwent 3 surgeries but still unable to walk without support. i had latest operation on 30th sept 2010. i want to pursue post doc. what is the criteria for that? i did my ph.d in West Asian Studies and worked with Dr. P.C. Jain. Earlier i was aware about eligibility criteria but i am unaware of any recent change. i shall be extremely grateful if you make me aware about any oppourtunity that would suits me. I am not handicap yet.
