The University of Agricultural Sciences shortly called as UAS, Bangalore was formed in the year 1964 and it is located in the city of Bangalore in Karnataka. It was formed by an act by the Government of Mysore and even though it was formed on the 21st of August 1964, when going through the history, it seems to be a much older university.

It can be said that the university was conceived early in the year 1899 in the form of an experimental farm. After this, in the year 1913 an agricultural school was formed with a farm spread over an area of 202 acres and this farm is presently acting as the main research center for UAS, Bangalore.

The university currently stands as a symbol of tribute to its founders and visionaries, who have worked for its growth and development. The present campus of the university is called as Gandhi Krishi Vignyan Kendra and the former Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi inaugurated it in the year 1969. University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore aims at making agricultural education approachable to the changing and growing needs of the aspirations of the farming community in particular and society in general.

It also aims at forming a dynamic system of agricultural education so as to train competent and highly skilled manpower to tackle the thought-provoking tasks in emerging areas of industry, extension and research. Initially, the university offered degrees in agricultural and veterinary courses and after some years fisheries science courses were added with the formation of Fishery College in Mangalore.
