Master of Physiotherapy is a Post Graduate Degree awarded for a program or course in the area of Physical Therapy, known as Physiotherapy. Abbreviated form for the Master of Physiotherapy is MPT or M.P.T. Some of the Institutes abbreviate it as ‘M.P.Th’. 2 years is the duration for this course. This program provides practical knowledge experience which enables skills, knowledge and the behavior which is required for an expert physiotherapist. The curriculum is designed in such a way that the students should develop the critical thinking ability for which case studies and clinical practices are mainly concentrated.

Eligibility Criteria for MPT program

50% marks for BPT with 6 months internship is the eligibility for Master of Physiotherapy course. Also there is an entrance test, which is also to be cleared to get the admission.

Admission Procedure for MPT course

The aspirants of MPT program need to take the entrance exam conducted on the university basis or on the national basis. The previous academic performance is also given some weight age during the admission process. The candidates will get the application form from the admission centre of the respective examination body. Most of the institutes/colleges are providing the facility of online registration for the entrance exam.

How to fill in MPT Entrance Application form?

The application form should be filled in block letters. The form should be filled in aspirant’s own handwriting and it should be filled completely else there is a chance for rejection. The recent photographs should be attached in the application form. If the forms reach the office on time, then the applicants who are qualified will be sent hall tickets for writing the exam. If the form does not reach in time, the institute is not responsible for the same. If there is any queries the applicants can contact the director of admission.

MPT Entrance Exam Pattern

The Master of Physiotherapy entrance test consists of two and a half hours to three and half hours duration. It consists of 200-300 objective type questions from the sections such as:

MPT course curriculum

The MPT is a two year course consisting of clinical posting, self academic activities and classroom works. First year provides theoretical basis along with research methodology and biostatistics. The students are given clinical expertise in all areas during the period. The students are required to select their study for dissertation and synopsis should be submitted. Second year students will have to specialize in an area. They will be asked to complete and submit their dissertation. The learning includes classroom teaching, case discussions, case presentations, journal reviews and seminars. In order to get a wider spectrum of knowledge, some of the clinical postings will be at other centers in India. They are encouraged to participate in workshop, conference etc. to enhance the knowledge. Exams conducted by the universities are held at the end of first and second year respectively.

MPT Course Evolution

The course evaluation is done on the basis of the examination conducted at the university level. It includes the theory paper, practical exam as well as the viva session.  The clinical practices and research project at the end of the program are also evaluated. The remuneration for physiotherapists will differ in different places. Salary starts from Rs.5000 to Rs.30000 per month in India. In hospitals, they provide salary ranging from Rs5000 to Rs15000 per month and plus a share on basis of the number of patients. For teaching jobs in Physiotherapy, salary varies between Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 per month. Remuneration can range from Rs2000 to Rs.40000 per month for established private practitioners. Salary for Physiotherapists varies from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2, 00,000 per month abroad.
