Kapurthala District is located in the Indian state of Punjab and it is situated in the northern part of the nation. The headquarters of the district is the city of Kapurthala and it is one of the smallest districts in Punjab both with respect to population and with respect to area according to the census conducted in the year 2001. The district of Kapurthala is spread over an area of 1633 square kilometers and the rural literacy rate of the district is 60.60%, while the urban literacy rate is 72.88%. The district has four sub-divisions and four tehsils and there are 15 blocks in the district of Kapurthala.
