Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was established in 1994 and was sixth in its class of revered institutes. It upholds all the characteristics of an IIT brand which has been established long before this University came to existence. It has a rich culture of awarding meritorious students with Scholarship and highest awards for overall performance in the university. This university has a unique topography amongst all IIT’s and is situated on the banks of mighty river Brahmaputra with massive campus of 285 hectares of land.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati started its academic curriculum in 1995 with just three departments namely Computer Science and engineering, electronics and communications engineering and mechanical engineering, which now has grown to 11 robust departments namely civil engineering, design, Biotechnology, Chemical engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and computing & Humanities and Social Sciences apart from the three listed above. Students can also do PHD’s in 3 centers which are Centre for Energy, Centre for Environment &Centre for Nanotechnology.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati concludes undergraduate courses in 8 semesters (4 years) and one can opt for B-Tech or B-Design. Students are selected through Joint Entrance Exam for IIT’s. Masters Programmes on the other hand has 4 semesters (2 years) and one can opt for M-tech in several of departments with various specializations, M-Design, Masters of Arts in Development Studies and admissions to these are held in July. Another Masters can be taken up in Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is in Science in Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics and Computing and is of 4 semesters ( 2 years) and admission is held through joint admission in IIT’s (IIT-JAM). The Doctoral programmes are however held twice in a year, in January and July.

It has been successful in its mission by churning hoards of graduates and post graduates helping in fueling further growth in and out of India.
