Four government-run medical colleges are functioning in the city of Guwahati, out of which two colleges are meant for Homeopathic education, one college is meant for Ayurvedic medical education and the other college is meant for allopathic medical education. These government run medical colleges offer BHMS, BAMS and MBBS courses respectively. Admission to the Ayurvedic and homeopathic medical colleges are made based on the performance of the students in the Joint Admission Test conducted by the state and admission to the MBBS course is done based on All India and state level selection bodies.

Engineering College:

IIT, Guwahati is one among the other popular Indian Institute of Technologies functioning in different parts of the country and this higher education institute was established by the Government of India. This institute is offering Bachelor of Technology courses through its different departments like electrical & Electronics Engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics & communication engineering, computer science & engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering & biotechnology. Admission to this institution is based on the performance of the students in the IIT JEE entrance examination conducted by all the IITs combined together in India.

Law College:

B.R.M. Government law college is offering law education with affiliation from Guwahati University. The college is offering Bachelor of law course with approval from the Bar Council of India and admission of students to this course is done based on their performance in the Common Entrance Test, conducted by Guwahati University.

Management College:

Assam Institute of Management came into existence in the year 1988 and it was established by the Government of Assam with the objective of promotion of professional management in the state of Assam. The institute is offering Post Graduate Diploma course in Business Management, which is approved by the AICTE. Admission to this institution is done based on CET, followed by interview and group discussion.

Sanskrit College:

Krishna Kanta Handique Government Sanskrit College came into existence in the year 1970 and the college is offering courses in the stream of Sanskrit with an intake capacity of 90 students per year.

Arts, Science & Commerce Colleges:

The government-run arts, science & commerce colleges in the city of Guwahati offer courses under arts, science and commerce streams. These colleges not only offer UG courses in these streams of education, but they are also offering PG and doctoral courses in different subjects coming under the arts, science and commerce stream of education.
