Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar University was formed in the year 2004 and was inaugurated by the former prime minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The university got its name after a great leader in politics. The university’s current campus is located at Kota Stadium in Raipur. The Airport is situated at a distance of 20 km from it making it easy to reach. The university campus is at a distance of 6 km from the railway station. A new campus for the university is under construction which is being built on 62 acre land which is given by the government of the state. The new campus will have guest house, hostels, utility block, multimedia centre and many other services.

The university offers various graduate and post graduate programs for the students. The graduate program is Bachelor of journalism and mass communication or BJMC (3 years or 6 semesters). The post graduate programs include Master of social works or MSW, M sc in electronics media, MA (in Mass communication and Advertising and public relations) and master of journalism (2 years or 4 semesters).

The eligibility criteria for the undergraduate programs include a higher secondary examination from any recognized board with a maximum age limit of 22 years which is relaxed by 3 years for SC/ST candidates. The eligibility for Post graduation is a minimum of 45% marks in graduation with an upper age limit of 27 years. The marks are relaxed to 40% minimum and age to 30 years for SC/ST candidates.

The institute has other facilities like a library supporting all the offered courses, a fully functional computer centre and hostel facility for its students.

For applying to any course in the university the students are required to fill in application form available on the university website which requires the percentages of the past examinations and general questions. The candidates are required to attach a demand draft of Rs 200/- (In case of SC/ST of the state RS 100/-) along with the application form along with 2 passport size photographs.
