Anesthesiologist - How to become an Anesthesiologist?
Physicians who supervise an anesthetic to a patient prior to a surgery are known as an anesthesiologist or anesthetist. Their duty is to keep an eye on the heart rate, the blood pressure and breathing of the invalid so the doctor can concentrate on the operation. There are many institutes and universities across our country which offers courses in anesthesiology. After the course is finished, candidates can find employment with leading hospitals in India or overseas. Anesthesiologists get a salary of approximately Rs. 3, 00,000 – Rs. 3, 50,000 per annum.
Qualifying exam
There are many examinations held for the admission of students into the anesthesiology course. They are given below:
- All India Institute of Medical Sciences Postgraduate entrance exams
- State wise Common Entrance test
- All India Common Entrance test
- Maharashtra Postgraduate Medical Entrance Exam
- Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Entrance Exam
- All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance exams
Who is eligible to apply?
Candidates who are applying for this course must be Indian residents. They must be atleast 21 years at the time of applying. After the MBBS course is finished, students can opt for specialization in anesthesia. It is also possible for the candidates to go for a Masters as well as Postgraduate diploma in anesthesiology. The candidates will be required to attend an oral examination after the completion of the written test. Students have to pass both the exams as to get the certification of anesthesiologist.
How to prepare for exam and interview?
Candidates who are appearing for the written test must be well prepared in the subject. Referring text books and magazines will enable to gain more knowledge. Also trying out question papers of the previous years is a way to get familiar with the pattern of the exam. Another good option for the candidates is to study with their friends. At the time of the interview, the candidates will be asked many questions relating to their previous jobs (if any), their professional and private life etc. The candidates must try to emphasize their ability to remain calm and think creatively as well as strategically. The candidates should remember to take their time before answering questions. They must ensure not to jump into conclusions before thinking it through.
