Cochin University, B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, 3rd Sem., Chemical Engineering I Papers
Pursuers of B.Tech mechanical engineering at CUSAT have to answer chemical engineering 1 paper during the 3rd semester of the course. This is a very important paper for mechanical engineering and the subject has to be learnt in depth.
Paper pattern
The question paper consists of ten questions with each question having sub questions. Out of the ten questions, the candidates have to attempt five questions. A main question will contain two or more sub questions. The questions include derivations, questions on experiments et cetera. All the questions are descriptive. There are no numerical problems in the question paper. The paper consists of one section containing ten questions.
Allotment of marks
The question paper is for a total of 100 marks. The candidates have to attempt five questions and each of them carries 20 marks. A question contains two or more sub questions. All the sub questions carry equal marks.
Duration of the paper
The candidates are allotted three hours to finish answering the question paper. Prior to the beginning of the exam, fifteen minutes will be allotted to the candidates for reading the question paper and for eliminating any doubts regarding the same. The paper is totally descriptive and the candidates have to answer according to the point in the stipulated time.
About the subject
The subject is mostly based on physical chemistry portions and the questions in the papers emphasize on derivations. The subject consists of many experiments and you have to focus on them well as it is sure that at least one of the experiments will make its way to the question paper. The subject is not based on physical chemistry alone. Organic portions like polymers are also important from examination point of view especially their application in industries. Questions based on X-ray diffraction are also of prime importance.
