With the view of satisfying the long felt aspirations and desires of the citizens and students’ belonging to the neglected and unprivileged region of Palamu division; the Nilamber Pitamber University was formed in the year 2009 on the 17th of January under the provisions of the Legislative Act of the State of Jharkhand. At this stage, the university has two colleges of education, one dental college, two engineering colleges, eight affiliated colleges and four constituent colleges under its jurisdiction.

Apart from these, the university has recently got a proposal of bringing five other colleges under its jurisdiction, which are belonging to Rachi University. Moreover, four proposals for nursing college, homeopathic college, Ayurvedic College and medical college were also received by the university. From the academic year 2010, the university has started teaching for post-graduation courses in 15 of its departments in addition to the already offered post-graduation courses at G.L.A. College. The university is marching forward and it will surely be able to meet the immediate higher education requirements in the state of Jharkhand in the near future.

The university is working as per the words ‘more can be achieved when more effort is put on a work’. The motto of the university is to impart quality education and research and to instill the sense of character building, discipline, visionary aptitude and belongingness among the students so that they can be able to cope with the modern world. Since the university is just one year old, it is hoping to make better developments in the future.
