Shikshan Mahavidyala is presently called as Government Shikshan Mahavidyalaya and the college came into existence in the year 1968 on the month of February. It is a co-education, non-minority institution offering education with affiliation from the Gauhati University located in Guwahati. The nearest town of the college is Nagoan and nearest railway station is Morikollong.

History of the college:

Until the year 1983, the college was working as a private college and the Government of Assam took over the college in the year 1983 and all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college are regularized by a government order issued by the government of Assam. Therefore, the staff members are paid directly by the government of Assam. The college was upgraded as a Teacher education college in the year 1996 under Centrally Sponsored Scheme as per the order issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of Government of India.

Course details:

Government Shikshan Mahavidyala offers Bachelor of Education course and the course of study is divided into four groups namely compulsory group, elective group, additional paper and practical works. The compulsory group includes four papers and candidates will have to compulsorily study these papers, the elective group includes papers five and six and additional paper includes two papers namely Mental Hygiene & Child guidance and  educational and mental measurement.

Admission Procedure:

Since Shikshan Mahavidyalaya has been upgraded as a Government College, admission is offered mainly to deputed teachers, who are sent by government on deputation basis. The college is approved with an intake capacity of 60 students and once the seats are filled by deputed teachers, the remaining seats are filled through fresh candidates. Deputation candidates are admitted based on their merit, while fresh candidates are selected through admission test for 100 marks, which includes 20 marks for Viva-Voce.
