Selvam College of Physical Education came into existence in the year 2006 and the college is operating as a fully self-supportive institution. The college was established with the objective of serving the youth of the predominantly downtrodden, under privileged and agricultural families in the neighboring areas. The institution began its journey with four faculty member and an intake of 38 students and the present student-strength of the institution is 145 students.

Courses offered:

Selvam College of Physical Education offers the following courses with affiliation from the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University:

• Three-year Bachelor of  Physical Education

• One-year Bachelor of Physical Education

• Two-year Master of Physical Education

• Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga (through distance education)

• Master of Philosophy in Physical Education (waiting for approval)

Intake Capacity:

For both the Bachelor of Physical Education courses, the intake capacity of the institution is 50 students per year, while for the Master of Physical Education course, the intake capacity is 30 students per year.

Eligibility requirement:

Three-year Bachelor of Physical Education: For getting into this course, candidates must have completed their higher secondary or equivalent examination. They should be free from any physical deformities and must have represented the school or district in any sport/game

One-Year Bachelor of Physical Education: For getting into this course, candidates must have completed their degree in any discipline from a recognized university and must have represented their university/college/school/district/state in any games

Two-year Master of Physical Education: For this course, candidates must have completed their UG degree in physical education with not less than 50% of aggregate marks from a recognized university. Even, candidates with one-year B.P. Ed/diploma in physical education with not less than 50% of aggregate marks are eligible to apply. Candidates must be between the age group of 20-25 as on the 1st of July in the year in which they are seeking admission.

Admission Procedure:

Admission of students to the UG course offered by the Selvam College of Physical Education should get through the entrance test, which includes the following:

• Written test – test will be conducted for a duration of two hours to assess theoretical, general mental ability and general knowledge of candidates. The test will be conducted for 100 marks and candidates will have to score a minimum of 40 marks to clear the test

• Physical Fitness Test – The physical fitness test comprises of pull-ups for boys, flexed-arm hang for girls, flexed leg sit-ups for one minute, shuttle run, standing broad jump, 50-yerd dash and 600-yard run. In this test candidates should secure at least 50% of the composite score of 60 points

• Test in game/sport – candidates can opt for any game for this test and the game should be one of the schedule of Association of Indian Universities Sports Division/I.O.A
