Sagar, which is also spelled as Saugar is popularly known as city of lakes and the city is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh in the central part of the nation. Originally, the city was called as SAUGOR to denote the amalgamation of two words namely SAU and GARH, which means 100 and fort respectively since the city had a number of countless small forts. With the time, the name of the city was also changed as Sagar.

Medical College:

Sagar Medical College was established in the year 2009 and the Medical Council of India has permitted the college to admit 100 students per year for the MBBS course, which is affiliated to the Dr. Harisingh Gour University.

Engineering College:

Indira Gandhi Government Engineering College, Sagar came into existence in the year 1981 as Government Engineering College and it got its present name in the year 1985. Initially, the college began functioning from the education college of the university and from the year 1986, it was shifter to the newly constructed technical school. Subsequently, in the year 1985, the Madhya Pradesh government allotted a land for the construction of premises for the college and after the construction was completed, the college was shifted to its own campus.  The college began offering engineering degree initially only in one or two branches of engineering and it is presently offering engineering degree in five branches with affiliatin from the Rajiv Gandhi Technical University at Bhopal:

Government Arts & Commerce College, Sagar began its educational journey with 55 students in the year 1983 and since then, the college has been growing considerably with respect to number of students, number of courses and other infrastructural facilities. The college offers UG Arts in subjects like computer applications, political science, sociology, economics, history, etc…, while B. Sc is offered in subjects like mathematics, zoology, botany, computer applications, etc… and the college also offers Bachelor of Commerce and even Master of Arts in History and economics and Master of Commerce as well.
