Chaudhary Devi Lal University came into existence in the year 2003 on the 2nd of April and the university was given this name in honor of the Jan Nayak Chudhary Devi Lal, who was the Deputy Prime Minister of the nation and was also a former Chief Minister of the state of Haryana. The university offers 40 different courses through its 16 teaching departments and the university has well equipped laboratories, library and separate hostels for girls and boys. The university is served by experience and reputed professionals and academicians and the experience of these people are used by the University for consulting them in preparing the curriculum for different courses.

The university houses two teaching block with four hostels, 87 houses for teaching and non-teaching staff, residence of Vice Chancellor, guest house for VIPs, rooms for supporting and teaching staff, tutorial rooms and 100 class rooms. It also houses science departments like mathematics, energy & environment science, computer science, food science & Technology, biotechnology, chemistry and physics. It also has its own hi-tech and media centre and the main gate of the university has an impressive appearance and this gate was inaugurated by the honorable Chief Minister of the state on the 2nd of August 2009.
